Outgoing 6th Grade Google Docs Transfer

Here are directions for transferring Google Docs files from the EUSD account to another Google Docs account for the outgoing sixth grade students.
Step 1 Sign Up for a Google account at Google.com. This will give you a Google Docs account outside of Encinitas USD.

Step 2. Login to your EUSD account at docs.eusd.net and put a check next to the Google Docs files that you want to transfer to your new account.

Step 3 Select “Share” on the menu bar.

Step 4 Type in the login email for your Google account under “Invite People” and then click on “Invite Collaborators.

This will share all the documents with your new Google Docs accounts. We will be likely deleting outgoing 6th grader accounts in August, so please move your files prior to this time.

Instructions for Joining Multiple Movie Files In Quicktime

Here are instructions and a video on how to use Quicktime to join multiple movies or podcasts into one Quicktime movie that be looped. This is useful for presentations and parent nights so that you can play all the work the students have done with digital media without having to manual open each file.

Doodle For Google Contest

All Encinitas Schools have been registered to be part of an exciting
contest. Doodle for Google is a competition which invites K-12 students to
play around with the google logo and see what new designs they come up with.
This year Google has invited U.S. kids to join in the doodling fun, around
the intriguing theme “What I Wish for the World.”

What I Wish For The World?

  • we use plants for electricity
  • we make college free for everyone
  • we give health insurance to all who need it
  • we connect everyone by cell phone or computer

These are exciting times and both our country and the world are on the brink
of significant change. Google believes in thinking big, and dreaming big,
and they are encouraging students to do the same.

Students will use the Google Template off the web site . Teachers will submit doodles
on behalf of their students which relate to the “What I Wish for the World”
theme. Doodles will be judged in the following brackets:

  • Kindergarten – Grade 3
  • Grade 4 – Grade 6

Your school can submit up to six entries.  You might want to hold a contest
to select the best doodles in each grade group.

Teacher Needs To Submit?:

  • A doodle
  • A title for the doodle
  • A supporting statement explaining how the doodle relates to the “What
  • I Wish for the World” theme
  • Completed consent form from web site.

The artwork should be placed on top of the submission and the entry form and parental consent form should be attached by a staple in the top left corner of the page.

Entries are due by 11:59:59 PM Pacific time on March 31, 2009.

Speak Up Day Survey

Our district is participating in the 2008 NetDay Speak Up Survey which enables students, teachers and parents to contribute their opinion and experiences on technology, math and science in their school. Speak Up is an annual national research project that has collected the viewpoints of over 850,000 K-12 students, teachers and parents from all 50 states. This is the second year the district will be taking the survey. Thanks to all classes that participated in last years survey.

This survey is entirely voluntary, but we would like to have students and teachers at each school site actively participate by the deadline on December 19th. A large sample will benefit the district and your school in the following ways:

* Gives our students a voice in their own learning.
* Use data to make curriculum more dynamic and relevant to students.
* Help teachers gain a better understand of student expectations about using technology and how they use technology out of school.
* Access to data that will compare our schools locally and nationally on technology, math and science.
* Provide data on technologies that the school community would like to invest in.
* Help support our goals of preparing students for the 21st Century.

To access the survey:

1. Go to http://www.netdayspeakup.org and click on the student survey link. Teachers will click on the “teacher” link.
2. Type in the name of your school.
3. Enter the school secret word that you received in the Speak Up Survey email.
4. Select appropriate grade levels for survey.
5. Complete survey.

K-2 classes have the option of taking the survey as a whole group. The teacher will survey the class as a whole on each question and enter the total number of respondents for each question. This will make it much easier to facilitate the survey to students who cannot read the questions on their own.

We appreciate your support and look forward to review the data from the survey. All answers in the 25 question survey are 100% confidential. The survey will take around 15-20 minutes to complete. We sent out a separate announcements for parents in the district to take the survey.

There are several strategies for having students complete the survey. This will depend on the access that your students have to computers.

1. Students can take the survey as a whole class in the computer lab.
2. Students can rotate into classroom computers to take the survey.
3. Students can take the survey at home and have parent sign off that they completed it. Students who do not have access at home, can be given time during the school day to complete.
4. K-2 classes can use the whole group survey to have all students data collected at the same time.
